hello to all you fellow vx owners with the umbiquious z22se??? engines.
just purchased a what i thought nice cdx vectra 2.2 16v with lpg conversion from a guy in southend and after reading this forum am wondering if it was such a good idea. maybe i should stick to my trusty 188k passat tdi estate. yuuuuuuughh i hear you say but they keep on going on and on and are good on the juice.
anyway my ?'s are obviously about the engine. mine has a TA010473 number engine acording to the vehicle check i did, i cannot find out to much about it and if it is another of those aforementioned engines with the dodgy chain system's. i thought that chains were meant to be better than belt's????
one of the neighbours who lives across the road has a 2l sri140 vectra b and l thought that they were a good sort of motor .
mine also has had a smallish internal coolant leak which i have managed to stop and someone i know said that he thought these 2.2's were made be toyota and had a history of cracked blocks/heads. does anyone know if this is so or is he talking twaddle.
anyway i will not bore the ar*e off you guys anymore but must say that it is nice to have the power when you want it albeit having to drop a couple of gears to get it and with the lpg you also have the economy as well,

hello and welcome to the site cheers..

the engine timing chain is known to fail on earlier engines and I would recommend you get it changed.
cost will be about £350 ish, so similar to a cambelt change.

once changed it will last 100,000 miles, so worth doing as a new engine costs £1500 :shock:

the engine was designed by General Motors
the blocks don't crack, but the heads can crack if the spark plugs are over tightened :roll:

i don't think you should be too dissapointed with your vectra if at all. unless it has already been done get the timing chain changed and you won't have too many more problems.

Hi fella, LPG, you`ll have to keep posting on how your getting on with it....

.... I`ve a proper knackered system on mine (read over some of my earlier posts!!!!!), would be great to hear about someones working, mine was great for the first few months, 106 mile a day to & from work, I really miss it.
