P0300 Code

Hi there , just bought a 2001 Vectra 2.2 CDX. Smashing motor apart from acceleration is flat at times. Sometimes it is real quick and other times it stutters and takes a while to get going.

The engine management light flashes for a while and then goes out.

I have had this diagnosed as fault code P0300.....unfortunately this fault code only narrows the problem down to one of about 8 possible causes.

Has anyone had this code and suffered similar symptoms? Would appreciate help in knowing which part to try and replace first?

Comes up as "P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected" Start with the simplest and cheapest first, plugs ect. Could be the coil pack though but thats a bit more expensive.

buy some genuine vauxhall triple electrode plugs, thet are the best plugs for the z22se and only about £4 each too 😃

they are the standard plug by the way.

single electrode plugs breakdown quite quickly for some reason dunno..

Interestingly I had the fault code checked at garage that specialises in german cars but it didn't show up any codes. Then had it tested with tech 2 which showed the code straight away...just goes to show that some of the generic diagnostics can miss things!!

Just thought I'd give you an update, had the plugs replaced and a new coil pack fitted an dthi sseems to have cured the fault.

Vauxhall quoted me about £45 plus vat for the coil pack; however, this turned out to be the wrong one and the one I needed was £174 plus vat!! Apparently there are 2 different 2.2 petrol engines, the standard 2.2 and the direct injection ecotec one....mine being the latter. Would have expected Vauxhall to let me know this!!
Apparently mine is the newer engine that is apparently used on the Vectra C....does this mean that the oil nozzles for the timing chain will be the wider aperture ones? I have been concerned about these as I've read all the horror stories on here and can't figure out whether it will be a problem for me?

Thats strange? The Direct didnt come out on the vec c till 2004 but was used in the signum from new. Check your engine code, Z22SE is the older one. You can get coil packs from ebay for about £80, just do a search for Z22SE and scroll down to shops. You had better check your insurance as well as the direct has about 10 more bhp, also the direct has lower emissions so its in a lower Tax band. By the was all Vec C 2.2's have the larger oil jet.
