broken chain

the timing chain in our 2.2 broke a couple of weeks ago, completely destroying engine. i have been in discussion with vauxhall since who continually insist that my engine does not fall into oil jet affected range. we have a 2001 astra coupe, chassis number 07YB014209 and engine number TA001526.

is anybody able to tell me whether my engine is one that is affected by oil nozzle problem?javascript:emoticon('notsure.gif')

the only sure way is to check the actual oil jet fitted dunno..

your engine number is very low and the later chains don't snap, so it would appear you have the old small oil jet which blocks and causes the chain to break because of oil starvation 🙁

Mikey, that's sad to hear. See my story below (Timing chain snapped...but fixed!), and see if you can get Vx and your dealer talking. It's easy for someone at HQ sitting in front of a screen to say that your engine isn't included in a recall, but that's not conclusive as far as I'm concerned. My engine is also a TA series, I think a similar number to yours in fact. PM if you like and I'll tell you who I spoke to at Vx.
