Now i do not enforce Red light drag racing 😃 But the other day this bloke forced me to do it, honest. It was a vectra b which had been so close to my rear bumper for the last mile that he could of polished it for me. So when he over took i noticed it was a 2.2. So at the next set of light it was on, i honestly thought i would have a slight advantage on him but bloody hell, ive only done the pre cat and de-restriction mods with pipercross panel filter, i totally nailed him. An when he was trying to pass me i just sat in 4th at 40mph and just eased the throttle in and he couldnt pass.

I am really surprised with the results. He was trying as he was giving the big 'iam' with his wheelspins :roll:

Or is it the fact there is a really big weight advantage?

You have a great weight advantage as well as your mods. It was because of an Astra 2.2 that blew me into the weeds a few years ago that I started modifying mine. I did the usual airbox and changed the exhaust and got a remap. After that i just got hungry for more power each time I went to a rolling road day. Thus costing me thousands and to think.....all because of an Astra 2.2!!

I feel exactly the same Vocky, but was absolutely fed up, almost every night doing repairs to the last four cars, some of which had recently been done.
The other major factor was i wanted something that would do at least 30mpg normal driving with some possibility to overtake.

Dont agree with tailgating, showing off, going exceptionally slow (posing) so people notice etc. whats it prove? Theres the time and place for it but given the opportunity i dont back out very often, still safe and have to make up for it in the bends.

I have a 2.2 and to be honest i never put my foot down in it - she looks and sounds the bollocks but i just can not be arsed. so to the guy who was up your arse then he dont derserve it. he is disin' the rep of 2.2 owners...

The 2.2 really inst that fast of a car anyway - i mean you think 2.2 litre engine but she really aint that quick - ive had smaller engine cars which are alot fast but who cares - she looks nice, sounds nice and drives nice, do ya need anymore or am i getting t old for all this.....

At the joint between the manifold and the downpipe there is a pre-cat. Unbolt the joint and you'll see the pre-cat in the top of the downpipe. Remove all the honeycomb section, they are very messy. Clean up and put the pipes back together. Job done, pre-cat mod.

I tend to disagree, the 2.2 is a quick car, well hang on, a fantastic engine in my view. It is the replacement for the old C20XE. Yeah there is quicker out there, but mixed in with the everyday cars there aint much quicker. Ive come down from a 3.0l cam'd 2.5l V6 cavalier Auto (gearing is far better on the auto V6 than the manual, more suited to the V) and i cant say theres much in it, if anything.

Since ive done the precat mod, on the standard exhaust, ive noticed ive started to get the same bubble and barrble of the vx220.

And yeah you are getting old, have a drive of a vx or a 2.0l nova or corsa and watch the grin on ya face appear, you'll be 17 all over again.

Well My Last car was an imported race tuned r33 skyline mate and nothing got anywhere near it mate so those days are over - ive had my speed kicks

I've owned at least one vectra from April 1996, lost count of exactly how many, but they are a good car and the niggles can be fixed - time and again :lol:

as for the z2.2se it can be transformed with some tweaks, just depends how much you want to spend :roll:

Does the car fail MOT if the precat mod is done?...Also does anyone living by me want to do the mod for me?

Pre cat removed should be fine for the MOT, later astra don't have the from the factory.

Precat ok for mot, its the main one after and visible underneath.

Took me hours to get the thing off and about 10 mins back on, lambda and O2 sensor clips come off easy now though.
Used a Dewalt cordless 18V 2.4hr batteries and still needed to fetch out the mains jobby. Need some good quality drills as well, not the chink shite, cobalt, titanium or similar and keep the speed down and use coolant.
Cold chisel after so it all comes away round the inner edge on downpipe
Rough guess 4 may be 5hp.

Jamee yours could well be the later exhaust, the main cat sits next to the cast manifold, so no precat fitted 🙂
