HELP PLEASE!!!!

I replaced my front disks and pads yesterday just the VXL disks and pads done them the usual way didn't touch any of the bleed nipples but when I took the car out for a drive today the brake pedal had to hit the floor before it worked 🙁 but if I put the pedal to the floor then press it again straight away they work the way they should anyone any idea what would cause this as I'm stumped notsure.gif
All help and advice will be greatly appreciated...

air could be in your brake lines, if i remember rightly when i changed my brake discs and pads i had a friend helping me who knew what they were doing, and we had to bled the brakes to get air out the lines.

Thanks Jay mate I thought this might be the problem as if I slam the pedal to the floor then use the brakes straught away after this they seem fine as if their's mibbe air in the pipes at either the servo unit or at wherever it is that makes the brakes work as as I said it's like by pumping it with slamming the pedal to the floor then using it as I ussually would it works FINE??????

I remember reading about astra brakes somewhere, I think you need to bleed them when the pads are changed, something to do with the master cylinder notsure.gif

If you pushed the pistons back too fast ther was a chance the seals inside the master cylinder could have reversed as they are wedge shaped .... but I thought that was only on the Astra F.

Yea that was what ma Dad had said but the pistons were pushed back gently think I was just panacking as the disks and pads I was on were past done so I think the play would be a bit different I drove my Mums Focus and their the exact same as them fingers crossed they only need bedding in I took them to Kwik Fit the guy said he would diagnose them as perfect but I obviuoslly know how my brakes should feel they are stopping fine just more travel than the old pads I'll find out when I bed them in right as they are feeling better now with a good few miles on them...

I ususally undo the nipple and push the pistons back,saves any probs arising,bit more messy tho....

my vx220 brakes felt soft, then I used my tech2 reader and found three abs codes, after I reset them the brakes were fine 😃

You think reset the ECU vocky just to be on the safe side and will disconecting the battery reset the codes mate?

No, it's the abs ecu and it keeps the codes 🙁

I drove down my road and applied the brakes as per usual and nearly went through the windscreen :lol:

amazing difference, I was only playing around with my £32 ebay tech2 reader and just happened to open the abs section and noticed there was 3 codes, I never even read them just cleared them as the abs light wasn't on.

during my rebuild I kept the battery connected to save the immobiliser from resetting itself, so had the abs sensors disconnected etc, I just thought it was because of that dunno..

it's worth a shot, but might not be your problem notsure.gif

Don't know vocky mate as i said I'm not sure now after driving my younger bros Veccy B last night as well as my mums Focus they feel the same as both cars especially now they are starting to bed in so i think i was just bieng a bit paranoid she's booked in to the mechanic anyway so i'm going to get him to put her on the diagnostics as with the light on because of the sports catt i dont know if i've had any faults so fingers crossed... by the way should i ask my mechanic to check my abs if the ecu reader is located elsewhere...
