I know where you're coming from. The Cavalier used to have numerous different engines of 2ltr size and they were all a little different but the z22se is the one and only.

I'm sure Vocky can verify this when he comes on later.

whats the difference between the z.22 engines and the 2.2 in signums etc?

the later signums have direct injection, which gives an extra 10 bhp

so technically a different engine being the Z22YH dunno..

That depends on the cams and if you do the job properly by porting the head. Ball park figures are around an extra 15bhp with the head work.

This is a wide open field really. I paid Courtenay Sport £1600 for porting my head and fitting Schrick Cams with Double Valve Springs & Collets. You can get Piper Cams on an exchange basis I believe for around £250/£300 and depending on how brave you are you could have a go at porting yourself but unless you're really handy I'd leave it to the experts. Porting usually costs around £500/£700 depending on who you use.

The Schrick cams are completely unnoticeable in my car regarding lumpy idle like other cams. Mine kick in at around 3800rpm and then there's a steady strong lump of power upto 6500rpm peak.

How much extra power did it all give you?

I've got the Courtenay CS5 package which is: Derestricted airbox and K&N Panel filter, precat removed, 200 cell sport cat, modified head, Schrick cams and Courtenay Remap. Its gone from 147bhp standard to 176bhp. I have recently found that my exhaust that I had fitted is not quite what I was expecting and is thus holding back a few more valuable bhp. I'm hoping to sort that out shortly so i'll be hoping for somewhere in the 180's next time it goes on the rollers.

Have a look in the Garage section and you can see the list of work thats been done.

you just need to send the cams to piper, no other mods required 🙂
