Whats the longest you have left your pc running for? Mine is coming up to 24 hours now and I will be leaving it running through the night again. Is it safe to leave them on for a long time? Thanks

ive had mine running for a few days b4, it's about if the fans can keep it cool, me thinks anyway. take it you got a big file downloading? 😃

i've left mine on for a week at a time and its running fine.

I leave my machine on at work 24/7 and it's been like that for years, hasn't broken yet :-(

Snap, mine gets left on all the time too, saves having to wait for the thing to boot up in the moring to go online! haha

Same here is left on 24/7 unless i it crashes / updates that require a reboot.

System Up Time: 22 Days, 3 Hours, 28 Minutes, 26 Seconds

Before I had to remove the dead DVD burner it would have been about 90 days .. not bad for XP

My PC at home gets switched off at night, as it's quite noisy, and you can hear it in the bedroom. We have boxes at work which have been up for 1 year +

Thats the best thing for them. Once everything is upto running temp, they are fine for years (in theory). The longest uptime we've had on a box on our network was 2.5 years, and it's still not been rebooted yet.

Sorry to throw you in the shade there Matt,

But in our office we have something running a very old flavour of Solaris on a sparcstation. The current uptime is coming upto 7 years 🙂

Bloody hell, the box we have which has been up for 2.5 years is a Sun Workstation, running our X25 Network Monitoring Software. The last time it went down was when we had a power outage at that POP site.

Ah well we're lucky enough to have backup generators should it all go pete tong, and with it load balanced over 2 UPS's aswell this little baby could be running when I retire in several decades time 😛

lol, we also have backup diesel generators, however, we had an issue a few months ago at our main site (where our NOC is based, and where I work) where we were on UPS for 20 minutes, but the backup generator never kicked in, and we ended up loosing all power to the building TWICE!

I work on a number of IT contracts, worked with HMV in the centre of London last year at their head office in Soho. Usual story, an engineer chopped through the power in the street, took systems out we had running for weeks. They actually brought in, on the back of an artic. a full generator as we were out of power for over a week!

At home, I have a PC and a number of servers in the loft, they never get turned off. Even my laptop goes into standby, and if it really has to go off hibernate! ;-)

Strangely my PC was on all week at least but rebooted this afternoon!
