Europa_Blue_SE1 Thanks Andy I'll have another look at this months TV the how to is about changing the timing chain (just looking at it the now as said doesn't look that hard just a lot of stripping to get to it) I'll show my Dad it when he gets home and see what he thinks as I could do with saving the money rather than getting my mechanic to fit it the car is due a full service I think I might just do the two at the same time 🙂 by the way I asked before but is there a how to on de-restricting my airbox I am picking my K&N panel filter up 2morro so I would like to know how to do it I know how to de-restrict the 1.6 16v but I take it that the 2.2 is different is there a how to section on site? dunno.. Cheers vocky yea done the timing belt on my z16xe so the same princaple then looks like I'll be saving maself some more money MORE cash for mods I'm thinking of getting a lightened flywheel and uprated clutch anyone any other ideas for a few more bhp 😃 cheers.. Andy and Neil
Europa_Blue_SE1 Thanks Andy that's a good link mate REALLY getting a lot from the site guys must say you all help as much as you guys in Mod and Admin and the rest of the members can and it is greatly appreciated... cheers.. I have been a member of a few Astra Owners Clubs and other cruise sites and most of them are filled with idiots that either are jealous of what you have or like to think they know it all when really they DON'T have a clue!!! 8)
Europa_Blue_SE1 Just talking with my Dad about doing the chain he was saying if the chain hasn't been changed before I'm probably better changing the sprockets and tensioner also as the teeth will probably be rounded with wear he says it's really just one of those things and if there's been an issue with these engines I am better being safe... Oppinions please would I be better to do as he is saying and change them also or do you think the teeth on the sprockets should be fine dunno.. I know when I take everything off I'll notice if the teeth are rounded but I want to have all the parts in for us doing it rather than having to run out mid job for worn parts just wandering if this has been an issue with any of you guys that have done a change yourself... Thanks again guys cheers.. All input is greatly appreciated 8)

Andy and Neil The lightened flywheel and uprated clutch won't gain you any BHP but it will apply the power a little more quickly. The lightened flywheel is 5.5kg as apposed to the original being 9.4kg. That's a fair bit lighter. When I had mine done I got to compare the 2 flywheels. Its amazing how heavy the original is. Also....I wouldn't worry too much about uprating the clutch. From what i'm given to understand, the standard clutch is very good anyway. You will need to replace the slave cylinder though. I had only done 40k and was advised by many that the cylinder would be fine but upon removal it was found to be on its last legs.
Europa_Blue_SE1 Thanks Johnny yea know the flywheel wasn't gonna gain me any bhp or torque should of worded the post a bit better thanks for the info on the flywheel and about the slave cylinder so you think an uprated clutch is just gonna use money that could go to power mods I'm gonna get a re-mapp done then later was thinking of chipping her but not sure what to go for mibbe a piggyback Dasteck or something I noticed you have the CS4 Courtenay done was mibbe thinking of something along the lines of that but I am really set on this turbo conversion I know Regal say with about 5k near enough all bits included you can get 260bhp out of the z22se but I like the sound of some throttle bodies I think SBD do a kit for the z22se but I don't know wht kind of gain I'd get from this??? What you think?

What you think? I've gone to Courtenay CS5 which includes the Schrick Cams. I've spent an obscene amount of money and if you can afford it mate, go with the turbo or even supercharging. The price for both is up around the £5200 mark. What I would say is the Supercharger will give you smooth mental delivery of power right from the word go all the way to the red line whereas the turbo will give it to you in a big dollop and there's the dreaded lag.
vocky the TMS throttle bodies kit should be released soon dunno.. the lightened flywheel is a good investment, I would recommend removing the clutch and if it looks ok reuse it 🙂 that's what I did with my vx220, luckily it was fine 🙂
Europa_Blue_SE1 Yea Johnny I posted about this somewhere before I would really love to go for the Supercharger kit as you said I wont have that dreaded lag but I was seriuosly put off it as someone told me that there was a guy that done it with his Veccy but had nothing but trouble with it but I seen a Corsa with the transplant in it in a feature in TV the guy was saying everything was running excellent he is a member on here now I am sure! I really want to go with the supercharger be a bit different... So I take it by what you and Neil are saying the flywheel will be a good investment I'll get a good improvement in take off with the flywheel wont I? I have no bad comments about the take off at the moment but I know it could be SO MUCH better than it is at the moment! I "am" still running budget tyres though but I don't want to waste money putting good tyres on a set of rims that I have plans of upgrading to 17s so the T/C light is always flashing like mad when I go crazy on take off that's another thing I am looking to do is put the T/C switch from the T888 into my SE1 as it is good for the winter but it ruins the fun a lot of the time I'd love to be able to just switch it off also I am well impressed with the weight of the flywheel as I am trying to get the weight down on the Astra I've ditched the spare for Holts Tyre weld and I plan on going for either going for the Team Dynamics 1.2s or the O.Z Ultra Leggaras 17x7 215/40/17 you think this is the best tyre size guys???
JohnnyN If you need 1st hand info about Supercharging, message Poundy who's a member on here or message Mark Watts from Courtenays who is also a member on here. I think Marks screen name is M22APW?? 8)
Europa_Blue_SE1 Thanks Johnny that's excellent mate I'll give both them a pm... Again thanks for the help and the info mate just can't wait till it's all finished I don't plan on having it done till mibbe about Xmas time but once the ball is rolling on either the turbo or the supercharger I will keep yous posted now I have people I can talk to about it and not get snide jealous replies just honest helpfull oppinions I will no doubt find it a lot easier to get this off the ground 😃 cheers.. Alan
JohnnyN Snide jealous comments?? Why? These forums are all about one thing at the end of the day, owners enthusiasm/interest in their own and other members vehicles. On this site we are all about helping others with their projects where we can and giving constructive comments and encouragement. Stick with us mate and you'll not go far wrong. ;-)
vocky I don't care whether a member owns a 250,000 mile £100 astra or a brand new astra vxr, they get the same response - good or bad
Europa_Blue_SE1 As said jealousy Johnny and people awnsering questions that they have NO idea about so really wasting peoples time and YEA I WAS GLAD when I found this site it was acctually through the only other site I think is Good VVOC that I found here! My younger bro has a Veccy B 2001 1.8 he's always on it I have seen vocky awnsering a couple of his questions before LOL Are you going to the PV Show Johnny?
Europa_Blue_SE1 That's the way it should be Neil and are you going to the PV Show mate? Cool Johnny... I'll see you there then or mibbe closer to the time I'll arrange to meet up for a couple of pints I'll be making a holiday out of it coming down with the Mrs and it's a bit of a drive... By the way do you guys do T-Shirts and stickers for the car I wouldn't mind putting a sticker on each of the rear quarter panel windows.
Andy Gazza is the one to speak to about stickers as he sorted some out, not sure if he still has any.
JohnnyN I'm doing shirts. They're black high quality polo shirts with the web address on the chest and the web banner across the back between the shoulders. Matt and Daz both have shirts. Feel free to message them about what the shirts are like. I've got 3x Large and 1x XLARGE in stock at the moment. 8)
