didnt damon hill do a lap in the old 'star in a resonably priced car' and got a time nearest to 'the stig' coz i remember mark webber wanting to beat him and jenson button, just a thought though

Yeah you're right, it was almost exactly the same as the STIG's time in the Suzuki

its ben collins. i know cos i was told by a guy who worked with top gear a few times preparing the cars.

The original Stig was Perry McCarthy, who was an F1 driver in the early 90's. Although the team he drove for was shite and never qualified for a single race.

Was such a shame, cos he was a pretty decent driver. Did some testing for Benneton and Williams in the 90's too.

There was talk about the current Stig being another ex-F1 driver a while back. Julian Bailey's name has been mentioned on numerous occasions dunno..
