Exhaust/Pipe recommendations..

Seems to me the 2.2 is a bitch to buy an exhaust for, they list a 1.8 but cant see that being any good for the 2.2, i might be wrong. So anyway got some quotes for a custom jobbie and i got a price of £279 for a single pipe (any design), seems a fair price. What diameter pipe should i be looking for? I want it too look an sound good with out being 'offencesive' but would like some gains out of it. i was thinking just 2" pipe with oval tail. Also whats the score with the cats, im a 2001 51 plate.

A 2 inch pipe is standard fitment from the factory. I would move to a 2.25" pipe if you're looking to modify at a later date.

This is a sore subject with me recently. I was led to believe that I had a 2.25" cat back system fitted by LongLife Exhausts when I went there but it was only a 2 " pipe. Now i've had all the other work done there's a problem with restriction, so basically I need to fit a larger bore diameter exhaust system now. As advised by Vocky, I should be looking at replacing the manifold and going for the 2.25" cat back. Either that or a 2.5" cat back but I think its going to be rather loud!!

2" is good for upto 160 bhp

2.25" for 160-180 bhp

2.5" 180 bhp+ [the maximum diameter a na engine should be fitted with, you should have a ported head, cams etc]

3" forced induction only

Cheers for that, i will probably settle for the 2.25 just to keep refinement and sound in balance.

I like the remus pipe but, well im fussy and its not a correct oval for the car. The bumper has quite a nice cut-out in it and just want to fill that back up with something simular to the original rather than a nice curve sitting against a flat edge of the exhuast, if you see what i mean.
