Noise on pull-off

Hi all, another day another problem !!!

When I pull away (nicely) in 1st, as the clutch reaches near the top of it`s travel I get a graunching sound for no more than a second or two....

The sound isn`t dis-similar to the sound a steering pump will sometimes make when pushed to the end stops. :roll:

The noise can also be heard in reverse 🙁

Someone has mentioned oooh your thrust bearing notsure.gif

Any ideas anyone dunno..

Does it happen all the time or only after start up? If it does only happen after start up then its the ABS system building up pressure. Well thats what i was told!

All the time I`m afraid Andy, but cheers for that. After an Hour + drive home from work it can be heard when slowly nudging it into the garage.

Firstly thanks to Neil (BlueSE2) for taking time from work to lend an ear to the dreaded noise. cheers..

Had a little play back home prior to putting the car to bed and the car makes the noise in any gear but only when pulling away, as stated before, just as I`m nearly completely off the clutch.

Maybe my clutch or gearbox is going to die before I can afford to get my chain replaced cry..

No not yet sorry, Ive a week off work now so may pop it through Griffen motors or Courtenays for the pros to have a listen.
As soon as I get any infoyoull be the first to know.

our car is booked in for a service next weekend so i am going to get the mechanic to have a listen.

im away to check if my warranty covers the clutch :lol:

Popped into Griffen motors today, they were unsure without having the car for a proper look, they did mention the thrust bearing again, and what a job it would be for a strip check and replacement (and the cost in parts and labour 🙁 )
Will continue the quest to find out what the noise is and let you know if I get any info`

i get the same with mine now and again and assumed it was clutch related, i.e. thrust bearing.

have been told its a big job to do a clutch on a vec and the typical cost seems around the £500 mark.

Yeah, £500 was what I was approx` quoted for the clutch/gearbox work should it be the fault, that and with me wanting to get my chain replaced in the near future it drains the bank balance too much at the moment..... as long as the cars drivable I will put up with the noise on pull off and concentrate more on getting the car in for a new chain. dunno..

yeah i can live with it for now as i can't afford that kind of money to sort it. its only now and again, if it was all the time then i'd probably look into getting it done.

Just to join in, mine does this I thought it may have been low on gearbox oil, but I guess not after what you lot have said...
Must be a bit of a common fault

Hi round, sorry to hear yours is sounding poorly too. Ive not checked the gearbox oil as of yet, may be worth a look. Starting to really grit on me now, as stated previously, itseems so expensive to have it checked out I`m tempted to leave it until it really needs attention.

🙁 I have a SRI 150 2001 - and it has been doing exactly the same for a couple of years but has not got worse. I am told it is a dry thrust bearing. I am going to leave it till it gets worse. Been through the whole cam chain nightmare though including the damaged cylinder head you get when it snaps !! I would do the chain first.

Not really a good thing, but its good to hear the noise is quite common amoungst us. Due to the Damn cost of it all it does seem best to put up with it, especially as you saiddo the chain first, which Im still putting off (no doubt tempting trouble).

my car makes the same noise as well, i used to think i didnt have enough revs on at pull away put i tried more revs and still the same.

oh yeah DO NOT PUT OFF getting your chain done mine went and it cost £1400 for a new engine.

put up with the noise i dont think its too serious a problem, even though i would like to know what it is?

Mine has been doing his for a while now too really doing my head in now 🙁

My last 150 did it aswell, also heard thrust bearing mentioned, Never did anything about it.

Didn't like the noise at all, glad my current one doesn't do it.
