My old Mazda MX-3 v6 used a variable length intake manifold. If one could be fabricated I think it would really help... and it isn't like simple control circuitry is very hard to make at all.
I had looked into one (on the exhaust side). A lot of bikes now seem to have them, and BMWs do as well I think, so that's definitely a source of parts (I imagine the conditions in the exhaust are quite harsh).
To be honest though i'd just be happy with a decat pipe with a value, so the car would pass emissions at 3000 rpm, but at 3001 it'd just bypass it 🙂
