Astra SRi airbox de-restricting

Hi everyone, new dude from Sydney Downunder looking for air box mods. can you point me to right direction. Engine is standard Z22SE with pre cat removed and seems to have a sports exhaust, fitted by previous owner. I want to get the civilised accelerator response a bit more "uncivilised", better responsive. This is my daughter's car, perhaps we put a picture on later. She wanted a turbo but the Roads and traffic authority here does not like it and wouldn't get the car insured for under 25.
Dad (me) drives a Vectra B, V6 but the SRi is more exciting.

To de-restrict the airbox have a look at this guide:

It's a very simple job! Also recommended is getting a K&N filter and Vectra C air intake pipe.

Off topic, where abouts in Sydney are you?

Hi Son...we live in Narellan, near Camden. Did you get your Vectra C intake from Holden or is there a cheaper place?

Hey, that unrestricting of the air box is easy, i did that in my Vectra V6 and it became more responsive. I also took the intake resonator out and put 75mm straight pipe between the headlight and the radiator to suck fresh air, works well. I'll modify the SRi airbox tomorrow. Dave, where did you get the K&N filter and what part number?

Yes it should be possible to buy the intake pipe from Holden Spare Parts. I bought mine from eBay and paid about $40 less than what Holden were asking for!

I bought the filter from Rocket Industries .. they are based at Huntingwood and despite what their website says you can buy over the counter. Call them to order the correct filter first though.

Cool, thanks. how much difference did it make to your car? Our SRi is the same colour as yours, silver. what tyres do you have? we have Falken 326 (if I remember correctly) . I also debadged it and got OPEL badges front and rear.

I found the whole intake mod provided quite a noticeable increase in engine response. It's smoother through the revs and feels more alive.

My wheels are fitted with Bridgestone Potenza G-III's .. good price and great performance.

Funny, we look at you as the "city people". we have a different culture here, there are horses on the other side of my back barbwire fence and I can see the Razorback mountain (hill) from my backyard. Not too many SRi's in this area. have you ever driven down to Robertson and take the alpine road to Albion Park? if not, make a plan, absolutely fabulous drive, I take my daughter there sometimes to "hoon". brings the best in your car (or worst). 20 minutes of pure enjoyment.

I have a spare Vectra V6, 2.6 air intake, has anyone tried to fit that instead of Vectra C intake in to 2.2 Astra G?

There is one other SRiT down your way that I know of, at least until it was sold! It used to belong to the Forum Admin for OpelNSW.

I've driven the Mt Keira route a few times .. haven't taken the drive you speak of though.

Down from Robertson is totally different to Mt Kiera. Don't take anyone with you who gets car sick or does not like speed. it is all 80 zone but needs a pretty decent chassis to be able to keep that speed so it is not illegal either. watch out for the big bikes going up and down, they move.
I didn't know there is an Opel club in NSW.

Does the Vectra-C intake pipe have one or two parts? I can get the main pipe for AU$40 from Holden. What is the shorter bit for?
