rear knocking vectra b!

my vectra 2001 sri 150 has a knocking noise coming from the back (i think) I can only notice it when going slow, is it normally the rose bushes x 4? if so how hard are tehy to replace? is there a special tool? and is it really needed?

which one do you think I should start with ie, which is the cheapest and easiest to replace.

anti-roll bar bushes = £5 from dealer 😃

about one hour to change, depending on how easy the brackets come off.

I've done them both in 20 minutes once 🙂

but they can take one hour each 🙁

rose bushes are about £20 each notsure.gif only use genuine items, the others go in six months :evil:

a pain to change, about one or two hours a side using the tool

you need a short 16mm - 3/8" drive socket, a flat screwdriver and a hammer

the socket just fits over the nut, remove the nut, then remove the bracket from the subframe (by turning it), then using a screwdriver and hammer seperate the bracket, the bolt will also require removing from the bracket by refitting the nut and tapping gently with the hammer

use some silicone oil on the inside of the new bush and refit in the reverse order, you will find the bolt will need to be held whilst tightening the nut, but the bolt will eventually grip back into the bracket

there might be a better 'how2' on vvoc dunno..

I did the rear anti roll bar bush tonight but I am afraid I might of f**ked it up. I couldnt get the brackets to split so that I could remove the rubbers so I took the whole bar off (undoing the 2x16mm bolts at each wheel, and I removed one wheel so that I could slide it out). I changed the rubbers, cleaned and greased the lot. Now that I have put it all back it looks (and sounds) like the bar is rubbing against the underside. How is this? the bar can only go on one way, cant it? as it has 4 x bolts, the brackets are defo on the right way as they can only go one way. Can you please help.

BTW the original knocking has gone, ut I am not too sure if the bar is all tight with it making contact to the underside.

easiest way is to have a look at another vec dunno..

but the centre section of the bar (behind the wheel well) should be higher than the bracket sections, if you see what I mean :?

Ok I f*cked up, i put the brackets on the wrong way, I had the D pointing down instead of up. So i have changed it back round and when I drove to work this morning the noise was still there, great!
So what is my next move? 4 x rear subframe mounts? rose bushes?????? shock mounts?

any ideas anyone??

Two points, is the anti roll bar a good fit in the bushes as the plastic coating wears off the anti roll bar and lastly are the end shackles in good condition ( anti roll bar end links ) as the metal reel that holds the rubber bush has been known to separate.

after the anti-roll bar bushes, the next item on the list is the 'rose bushes'

there's four of them (two each side, one upper, one lower) and you can check them by jacking the car up and seeing if there's any movement at the joint

vocky, do I leave the wheel on and wobble the wheel or do I take it off and use a bar to see if there is any movement on the bushes???

Leave the wheel on check the same way you would for a wheel bearing ie top to bottom, you might need someone else to do wheel moving and you have your hand on the rose bush, top one or the botton either way you`ll feel the play.
