I was only talking about this the other day, 'if you want to upgrade your operating system, buy a new pc with it on'

a new pc is designed around the operating system and when updates arrive it gets slower and slower.

even my 2 year old pc, which used to take 20 seconds to boot, now takes a minute or so 🙁

it's just not worth buying a new operating system dunno..

Thats the reason I normally re-install Windows XP every 6-8 months on both my PC's, and I normally re-install linux every couple, because I'm always playing about with it, and normally break it (as I've done tonight, so just re-installing it now)

Thats the fun of Linux, not everything works how you want it to out of the box, I messed something up with the Desktop controls, so it didn't work anymore. I can re-install linux and get it to a working state in about 50 minutes, so it's quicker to re-install sometimes than troubleshoot what went wrong.

Yep, one of the problems I have with XP is that my recovery disc is 3.5 years old, which was before SP1, so when I re-install from that, I have to get EVERY update before SP1, then SP1, then all the updates before SP2, then SP2, and then all the stuff after that. I've built a new one with SP2 incorporated into it, but it's a bit tempremental.

i use my OEM XP disc with a utuility called Autostreamer to update it to SP2. Works a treat then it's drivers and apps to go on.

I should really create a ghost image of my PC, i hate having to flatten it as i always miss installing somthing.
