Best Tyre size for 17s?

Looking for correct tyre size for 17's

215/40/17 ?

205/40/17 ?

for an astra (coupe) i know it is 215/40/17 and 215/35/18

For a vec c its 215/50/17 or 225/45/17. 225's are cheaper by the way.

I have had 215\40\17 and 215\45\17 on my astra and i find the ride alot more comfy on 215\45\17.

it IS alot more confy but thats what it says on the papers of the car and in belgium u wont pass MOT without a right tyre size. Dont know about england though so maybe ur lucky.

Also if u put 215/40/18 instead of 215/35/18 ur tyres might hit your arches on a speed bump or when loaded so lowering will give even more problems.

Not to mention the overall size of your wheels (rimz + tyres) will be different so ur tacho does not tell u the right speed anymore

There is no issue with tyre sizes with MOT's in the uk apart from the width going past your arch or somthing like that. I ran a tyre \ wheel size calc to what was origanally on the car and the 215\45\17 was only a fraction out to the origanal the 215\40\17 was slightly more out. I am running a standard suspension setup and have no issues.

lol so that says if you use a wider tyre the difference is less? but it clearly shows 205/40/17 is 23.46 inches, and a 215/40/17 is 23.77 inches. so the 215 tyre is bigger but the 'difference in diameter percentage' says its less? notsure.gif
