Exhaust question...

Little question about the exhaust on the 2.2 astra coupe -

My exhaust is totally buggered, think theres two parts buggered including the catalyst converter part.

Took it into a local garage yesterday, they guy got back to me later in the day with the problem, told me its gonna cost about £900 odd quid to supply and fit whats needed, does this sound about right? He said for the coupe 2.2 there is only vauxhall parts available, no other alternatives.

Dont think i can afford £900 odd quid this moment in time :shock:

You could easily have a custom made stainless steel complete exhaust with sports cat and back box etc made for less than that. Thats a stupid amount of money for an exhaust!

do not pay £900 for an exhaust :shock:

a cat back stainless jobby is only about £350 and a performance cat downpipe section the same price

I paid £300 for a custom s/s cat back system, still have the standard cat though. If you are worried about custom systems being too loud then dont, they can suit it to your requirements.

if u won't to buy off the shelf then yes, gen vaux bits only, they do not do an after market exhaust becouse the coupe is not common enough for it to be mass produced .when i needed a back box 4 mine i was qouted up to 200 quid plus vat but got one off the internet from vauxbits second hand but mint condition with nice chrome pipe for 55 quid with delivery from london to manchester and next day 2. might be worth trying second hand if u wont to replace with standard for a fraction of the price.i was told the 1.8 and 2.2 coupe exhaust are the same but not to sure if the whole system is the same or just the back box .

Thanks for the replys, think ill look into a stainless steel system, or keep a look out for second hand parts or something.

Hopefully get it back on the road soon!!

As said you could get a custom exhaust made up for a lot cheaper than £900 I paid about £350 for my back box and sports catt the rest of the system cost a bit more but I just noticed you are also in Glasgow take a trip down to C&C mate I don't know if I am allowed to put up the number etc but if you pm me mate I will give you C&Cs number and where they are if you phone them ask for Campbell and tell him Alan told you to phone he'll see you alright but don't pay £900 mate...

And the story gets worse puke..

Guy at the garage phoned me there, said he took off the whole exhaust at the weekend, said something has seriously went wrong with it, he says the exhaust has totally overheated, the two oxygen sensors have totally melted so im gonna need 2 of them now!

Im guessing these aint cheap, probably in the region of £100 each or something?

Anybody know the best place to source them?

Got all the parts getting delivered tomorrow and there getting fitted.

Can't help thinking that there something else wrong with it though, surely the oxygen sensors wouldnt just melt like that otherwise.

if the cat blocks, the sensors usually melt with the heat 🙁

Well thats the new exhaust just about fitted, but since its been in the garage another problem has cropped up! Not sure if anyone will be able to help with this one...

when the key is in and turned the car wont start, sounds like it wants to start but wont.

the guy at the garage connected his wee computer up to the car, its comming up as KEY TRANSPONDER ERROR.

he says ill need to get it taken to a dealers to get checked and repaired, anything i can do or check before i get it towed to a dealers and have to pay £61.50 for a diagnostic check.

new fob needed? or needs re-programmed or something?
