Matts right i had to get some fairly heavy pressure on matts scratch as slow cut method wasnt doing anything, the polishing pad got a tad warm LOL. Even though above situation isnt great for your paint work if i had done the same with rotary i would have destroyed matts bumper.
What you may find with your current setup is if it's just a standard polisher from halfords it will be great for wax application but what you will find if you try and use it to remove defects is if you press on too hard you may inflict more.
The PC was a great investment. Like is said have a look on detailing world there is some good guys on the forum and some very pro detailers on there, who will share there advice.
