a bit worried

what sort of noise should i expect from the dreaded timing chain
tonight i heard a sort of light tapping coming from the air box
does this sound like anything to worry about

i have it in writing from vx that mine is ok but still unsure
its a vec on a june 02 plate
got lots of evidance to put there direction if anything was to snap
but just dont want it to ie two letters and 3 ref numbers from the
recall centre to say there is nothing wrong with it

oh and full service history last only done in jan

so this airbox tap is it anything to worry about?

Was is it the evap purge valve clicking away??

could have been the throtle they make some strange noises on start up

the car was very warm so not cold
just more like a slight knocking from the air box when you put your ear to it
had just had a bit of stick on the motorway
but i cant say ive ever noticed this tapping before

i put my ear to the engine and sounded smooth
then to the air box and like a tapping noise

As said in my 1st post it could be the evap purge valve as thats clipped to the airbox...that makes a clicking/tapping noise....

i would take what vauxhall say with a pinch of salt.

i was told twice by vauxhall that mine (March 02) wasn't affected with the small oil jet but i had Daz change the chain for me as a precaution. when he was stripping it he found that i did have the old small jet fitted.

as I've said many times 'if in doubt replace it straight away' it's cheaper than a new engine :roll:

i know andy m8 dont belive a word they say
but they have given me it in writing on two ocasions
so i reckon i got some clout there if anything goes bang...lol...

quick update
didnt use me car all weekend as i was on the diy jobs
started up this morning
and smooth as a babys bum again, no tapping
so it might of been a bit warm or sumit
like i said on friday i had just give it a bit of stick on the motor way
(a vec 1.9cdti wanted to play.....lol...)

anyway just another quick say on the noise i had
it was defo coming from the airbox and it was rather like the imfamous
tractor noise you get from a 2.0 with a k+n cone on
but not half as loud

and i will get the chain done before the summer
