Gearbox oil level

hi all how do you check the gearbox oil level ?

Think mines is leaking had the car on the ramp @ exhaust & tyre place & I was having a nose round under the car :roll:

Hmm, not sure mate. Try topping it up til it's full as I have seen others do it this way, you should see a nut near the gear box to top it up, but find out for sure as I don't want you to break it :? 🙂

There should be a level bung somewhere half way up the box? Dont undo summat off the top and fill it right to the top that way as you`ll knacker it up. Topping it up that way is ok if u do hav a leak but unsure on what level ur at. Although ya never know if its been overfilled before and thats the excess getting spat out.

I thought I may have been wrong :oops: . I have seen my mates do engine conversions and when they have finished they just run a pipe into the hole and top it all the way up, but it's been totaly empty when they have done this. It's always best to ask a few others first 🙂

They might have been filling it up thru the level bung Mark which is fine 🙂

Thats what I meant in the first post :lol: , I just remember seeing them remove something near or on the box and topping it up 😛 . I thought it was a nut of some sort. Cheers

there is a 8 mm allen key on the back of the box this is the level plug and fill plug hope this helps ........

Hi to all,,,,

Im new here, but i have the same problems,,

After checking the haynes manual
it states that for the F23 box (fill to the level as normal) then after screwing the level plug back in fill with another half liter oil.
it says its part of a modification.

But im sure some1 here will check this to comfirm.. I hope !!

I would like it comfirmed as im thinking of doing this to see if it help the gear changes.
