ok guys got a quick question about memory. i'm thinking of upgrading my pc and looking at getting a core 2 duo processor, new motherboard, hard drive and more memory. what i want to know is if i buy i motherboard that takes DDR2 PC4300 memory can i also i use my current memory which is DDR2 PC4200??

ye you should be fine the 4300 will be marginally quicker as it has more bandwith, but to put your mind at rest, check what your mobo supports, i.e Ram voltage, dual channel (if your runnin 2 sticks). then check your Ram matches the mobo.
I recently built 1 for mi dad; Asus p5wdh deluxe mobo, 2 gig corsair xms pro, E6700 core duo cpu, 150gb wd Raptor hd.

I have one similar and they are quite nippy, but depends what your budget is.

seems my comouter has DDR2 PC2 4100 memory fitted and not the 4200 i though it had.

My budget (if the wife lets lol) will be £250 without memory. I'm hoping to sell what i replace to fund the memory just not sure wether my current memory can be used.

IF you already have a sound card, and on your budget i would go for summat like the Asus P5B-E mobo because it uses a better quality chipset.

btw flog your memory and get a gig of pc6400

this is doing my head in now lol.

struggling to get the bits i want within my budget. with buying memory my budget would be £350.

any idea what my current bits are worth second hand??

if you use two diffrent speed of memory DDR2 PC4300 and the DDR2 PC4200. the DDR2 PC4300 will run at the same mhz as the DDR2 PC4200

thats what i thought especialy with a lifetime warranty.

trying to keep within my budget is proving to be a nightmare lol.

ocz is fine memory and some of the high end stuff is expensive as it caters for overclocking enthusiasts!

a lot of the reveiws i've read on the core 2 duo chips say that overclocking them is easy with good results.

yep they are ive had my core 2 extreme chip up to 3.8ghz just with air cooling! they run really cool so no probs overclocking

I do a fair bit of a/v encoding, and its halfed the time compared to my old P4 chip, i cant recommend them enough! Although day 2 day surfing and gaming aint that noticable, multi tasking and number crunching is were it flys! Only trouble is they brought out a damn quad core now aaarrggghhhh!!!!!

yeah i've seen those, but they are expensive though.
