quick tensior question.

hi boys, almost completed the new chains etc, but just have a quick question.

is there any special way to install the tensioner, or is it just take it from the box,screw it in and torque it up. or do you need to twist it?

it should come already set as 'install mode', once fitted you should push the chain guide towards the tensioner with a screwdriver, this activates the tensioner

if it's already open, it is possible to fit, just be careful not to cross-thread it when pushing it into the head and starting the threads [you will be pushing against the tensioner]

you can reset the tensioner back to 'install mode' by turning the tensioner until it holds closed

hi mate, thanks for the reply.
ive installed it, and also tried using a screwdriver and pushed towards the tensioner but it didnt seem to move alot and am worried that the tensioner isnt in normal mode.

obviously this must be done correctly or i will be changing valves again 🙁

if i remove it and it comes out the same as it went in without adjusting itself then i suppose this will prove ive done it correctly wont it

if in doubt try undoing the tensioner, there is some pressure when the tensioner is normal

when in 'install mode' there is no pressure.

plus it will sound like a diesel on start up

when "activating" the tensioner are you supposed to hear a click or something?
Id assume that if its not activated then on startup it would sound like a bag of ground up nails...

there is no noise, only way to tell is the chain is tighter
