2.2 Quick or slow??

Thank you for the info. I'm beginning to think the 'french cars are unrealiable' dabate is just a myth these days. I have driven the clio 172 and was really impressed. I am serious thinking of getting one as they are quite cheap now. What is the milage on yours? have you driven the 172 cup?

Ours is a 2002 with 47K on the clock. Aux belt should be done at 36K and cambelt at 5yrs or 72K. But i want it done to be on the safe side. I did test drive a Cup but i didnt like the non-leather seats and the older ones dont have AC or ABS. To be honest i could not tell a diffrence performance wise either.

I just like my comforts ie leather ect.

Im not really bothered about how fast it is really - all im bothered about is how good the car looks and the grunt it makes like it has loads of torque.

i was parked up at the beach and this young lad pulled up in a scooby next to me and got out with his blonde bit lookin and smilin at my car then another astra vxr pulled up the other side and he got out and had a look at my car and because of the upgrades ive done it kinda thros people off to what car it is - anyway these girls where walkin past with a group of lads behind and one of them said which one would you have and the girls ponted to mine and said defo that one and the lads said yeah scoobys are too common and the black car does look like a weapon !!.

so there you go chaps .......

I totally agree, my last car (Astra IV) only had a few mods on it but proved to be a real head turner.
You can tune a car or just buy an Fing quick one but theres always some bugger out there with a quicker one.

Hark at me, proper jealous cuz I can`t afford to do much to mine.

The Vectras the quickest car Ive owned, and does all I want it to, suprised it doesnt provide more power as standard looking at other cars on the market though.

Comparing my 2.2 to my old 2.0, above 4000 rpm, it's about the same, but below 4000 the 2.2 out pulls by a mile.
Who'd thought 200cc would make soooo much difference :shock:

I was suprised the first time I drove my SRi 150 as I traded in a Corsa 1.7 CDTi SRi for it as I couldnt get on with it, :evil:
where the corsa had alot more torque OBVOUSLY being a diesel but the vectra is far better geared and alot more willing. showo..
as the corsa wouldnt rev at all 4500rpm was the peak power and 4800 was the redline. Just my dads 03 audi TDi power
comes in just about 1300rpm and does not run out of puff untill it gets well into the red line 🙂

I like the 2.2, most of the time im in 5th gear, i even let it drop to around 25 mph and it still picks up with no problems! but the best bit is after 4000 RPM wow it does feel and sound good 8)

I know what you mean about the sound Andy!
It has its own destictive little whine the engine gives.
I found mine has alot of low down grunt as well, more so since I have done some mods!

My sound is amplified by the custom cat back system!! Low down grunt is good love the way it sill pulls at 20 MPH in 5th gear!!!

Did the chip change the characteristics pf the engine much Andy?

Mine did matt, made it so much stronger made the car feel more alive! pulls better all the way through the rev range and the power del from 3800 - 4900 is great. A fantastic mod well worth it. I would have possibly changed the car if i hadnt had this done

Having just changed the exhaust i would say removing the precat, sticking a straight through centre on (like the remus), derestricting the air box and sticking a k+n in are the first mods any 2.2 driver should do. Low down grunt was pretty rubbish before i had the exhaust done, now its sweet all the time 🙂

What kind of chip did you have done Andy? Regal EDS?????

I think andy had the same as me a Live remap at ChippedUK.

I am not sure about the EDS, I belive but may be wrong that the EDS software is a generic map that is modified. When i had mine done i had it customized to my car. Not sure if it makes that much difference really. Here is my post.
