think im gonna give up on tuning the 2.2 and just make it look nice...
had a go with a 106 GTi (1.6!!!) and we were side by side!!??

and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with my car as i can quite happily crawl past cav gsi's.... rallygif

106 are half the waight of the astra you would of left him after 110mph.

The 106 is like 130bhp in a tin can, so dont let it get you down.

I have the same trouble with the Saxo VTS , they can keep up with me no problem but I would probably go past them at 100mph nana.gif

if i loose to a shit car i tell them mine is a 1.6 sxi lmoa. then they feel crappy for only just beating a 1.6 xsi as opposed to their 1.6 vtr etc etc

one advantage of having a coupe is no one knows what engine size the car is as vauxhall never put engine sizes on the back,the only way to tell if the car is a turbo was smoked rear lamps on early models or ask the owner to open the door and look at the tread plate,one good thing if i was to be beaten by a 1.6 and the owner asks what engine size the car is i could say either 1.6 or 1.8,doesnt sound so embaressing then :oops:

I had a go with a 2.2 Astra about 12 months ago and it left me on the ring road. Thats what started me off on my quest for tuning my car. I had a pop with my workmate on the ring road last week in his BMW 323i Touring which has a 2.5 engine and he couldn't even sniff me now i've had the Courtenay treatment.

I wouldn't feel to down hearted about loosing to either a 106 GTI or Paxo VTS, both have the same 122(ish)bhp 1.6 16v engine as standard, and the car weights nothing at all.

IIRC the 0-60 on the 1.6 16v is about 7-7.5 seconds, those things can shift.

I reckon it's all about torque. Chuck three geezers in your Paxo and it would struggle. Chuck the same three geezers in your Astra and I doubt if you would see much loss of speed.

Torque is where the Astra wins

I hear the gear box in our car is poo compared to some of these smaller cars, once we get going it's bye bye to those little 1.6 motors bye.gif

the gearbox is guff, at least the f23 is. Ive had two f23 boxes now, one on my 2.0 vec and another on this 2.2. Im not buying another vauxhall until they sort their boxes out. the F18's in the standard 1.8's blow up with alarming regularity too. WTF has happened to vaux in the last t en years? All the cavs and astras i had in my youth never once gave me gearbox trouble... surely its not time to switch over to fords is it??

I had a V6 Calibra with a duff box, changed it for a second hand one, that was duff too !!! then part ex'd it for the Coupe. But Iv'e had Vauxhalls for the last 18 years and no serious problems.
