OBDII cars have two oxygen sensors to measure the amount of oxygen contained in the exhaust gas. The first sensor is located on the manifold or header and measures O2 content of the exhaust as it escapes from the cylinders. This sensor is used by the PCM/ECM to calculate fuel trims and look for combustion problems. The second oxygen sensor is located after the catalytic converter and is used only to measure catalytic converter efficiency. The PCM/ECM does NOT use any data from the secondary O2 sensor for engine management. The PCM will set an CEL(check engine light)/SES (service engine soon)/MIL(Malfunction Indicator Lamp) light if the catalytic converter is removed, the sensor is removed, or the sensor goes bad.

When the test pipe is installed and the converter is removed it is necessary to verify that nothing else sets CEL/SES/MIL light and the car can pass OBD emission inspection. The O2 Sensor Simulator will simulate sensor proper signal and will not let the PCM/ECM to store the error code and set CEL/SES/MIL light.

some sports cats cause an eml, this fouls the ecu into believing all is ok.

also works with no cat fitted.

Wish I had this info` when my LPG system was working, I kept having the management light staring at me, changed each lambda sensor then later found out that they were probably fine, the constant change in emmissions switching between LPG & petrol just confussed the poor buggers notsure.gif

I've done about 130 miles in my vx220, but I haven't driven it for a couple of weeks :cry:

the only issue so far has been the duff egr valve, but I already knew about it :roll:

so now have an 'egr simulator' fitted 😃

And how much was the simulator? take it was cheaper than a EGR valve notsure.gif And how's that box of tricks for the EGR you had in that other post is it going well?(is this what you are using in the VX220?)

I'm currently finishing off a few bits I forgot about, mostly done now 🙂

the egr simulator is a new 'box of tricks' or 'egr cheater' 🙂

the circuit was designed by Steve Crisp and this is what is fitted at the minute 😃

early signs are good, I'm going to fit it to my sri150 and run that over the weekend to test it a bit more.

Which o2 sim do you require for our engine? Single or dual output?

I believe it will be the single output because we only have the one 'after cat' sensor :thumbup:

dual would be for v6's v8's etc with two banks of exhaust
