Hi,
I had the exact same problem, took Vocky's advice and got the car to a VX garage.
I had very noisey rattle on startup (when left standing for a few hours) and then very lumpy tickover (car sounded like a diesel engine).
VX have now replaced the chain and everything is fine, no rattle and tickover nice and smooth.
VX reckon it slipped and jumped a cog or two, causing the timing to go badly out, coudl have been a lot worse and I gues I was lucky (apart from teh repair bill).
One question I have, would the mechainc have replaced the oil feed nozzel as standard ? is there anyway I can check if it is now the larger nozzle ?
I will say though VX were adamant that there is not a chain issue outside of the advised engine range, they kept telling me that mine was not a problem.
