Hi. I'm kev, i have joined your forum because i have been asked to tune up my friends astra coupe 2.2 sri.

At the moment the car has a pipercross.

The obvious route was going to be turbo or supercharger, although i have decided that we will probably be able to find the power he wants without using forced induction.

I wish to start off the project by removing the cat and fitting a Megasquirt ecu, i already use one of these on my swift engined mini. The ecu will be followed by headwork and throttle bodies.

From here if more power is wanted then cams or forced induction will be added.

For the throttle bodies i will look for some off of a bike, maybe hyabusa and construct my own manifold. I will need to research if any of the inlets are interchangeable, this way i will be able to get one to cut up and i will be able to utilise the flange and some of the runners.

My main concerns are the removal of the ecu. I may encounter problems with emobilisers and the traction control blah blah blah.

I have know idea at all the sort of power gains to expect.

I'm going to move this thread to the Tuning section, as you'll get a better technical response in there. We have some very knoweldgable members on here, who will be able to point you in the right direction, and also give you a good idea of some realistic power gain figures.

Here are a couple pics of the bike carb conversion that i was carrying out on my mini. The manifold needed more welding and port matching to the head.

I have since learned that the angle into the head would have caused problems with flow, so i have reverted back to a stock manifold and throttle body, Iam also fitting a turbo to this at the moment.

I will approach the astra itb conversion in much the same way, i will try to keep the entry into the head as straight as possible.

I will be building a new subframe and will hopefully be road legal at easter if i can blag some money out of my rents for insurance.

Ok i have a few questions to ask.

For people who have fitted or are fitting throttle bodies, are there any problems that i may encounter when removing the original ecu.

I intend on making up a jump lead setup so that i can go straight from the megasquirt to the vauxhall loom without having to chop off the original ecu plug.

A lot of megasquirt is based on gm sensors so it should be straight forward.

Will the alarm etc give me problems, i could probably keep the original ecu plugged in and try and run both.

any help will be appreciated

the immobiliser is built into the z22se ecu, so if you remove the ecu, you remove the immobiliser

some stand alone ecu's allow a new immobiliser to be programmed, otherwise you just won't have one :roll:

the main issues are, the z22se has no cam sensor and you also need to fit a new crank sensor

Ok thanks. I will only need a crank sensor for the megasquirt.
