it has a thicker head gasket to lower compression

brakes would need to be 308mm minimum
Correct, although it is a laser cut spacer plate (decompression plate) rather than a thicker head gasket as the spacer plate is run with two head gaskets too. The car has been running on lowered compression for the last six months as I've already done that bit and have been gathering the other required components.
Sorry for dragging up an old topic ... I am now seriously considering supercharging my Astra.
With regards to fitting the spacer plate to lower the compression would that double the chance of ending up with a blow head gasket? Are their any side-effects to changing the quench area in the cylinder that the spacer creates, too?
I'm sure the spacer is proven to be reliable and it's probably an easier option rather than fitting a different head or pistons...
