can anyone tell me where or how I go about getting the brain on my 2.2 cdx estate replaced. I do have a spare that I want to get put on the car. I have been told that the brain is most likely faulty and has resorted to putting itself in default mode.
Which is resulting in a permanent emu light staying on,the trip computer doing really funny things and giving out readings of 70mpg, and stuff like that.
I live in kent so if anyone knows where to get this sorted I would appreciate it.

Hello. I had Ecu problems with my Astra 2.2. I bought a new one from Vauxhall costing £610. If you have an Ecu from a car the same as yours to get it working you will also need the transponder chip from the key (It's paired with the Ecu) & the electronic ignition part that sits round the ignition (black circle)

can the ecu not be programed to the previos transponder chip with the right equipment??

you need the ecu code to reprogram it, there is a set on ebay at the minute - ecu, transponder + chip

the reason i ask is that i have a spare ecu that i want to use in the future to send away to be uprated so the car can stay on the road,
but i only have the ecu not the chip.... any ideas ?? 😃
can it be reset to my car and chip?

It is possible. Vauxhall would probably have to do it for you..

thanks for the replies so far.
I have consulted my local mechanic and he thinks I should try the new ecu in the engine and see if it works.
As apparently there are a couple of variants or something one of which is not linked to the key and may just work independently.
If not then the ecu will probably have to go to vauxhalls who I hate because of the overpricing policy.
But before I do I will try looking for some more answers on the net or failing that I might even consider a race unit from a specialist tuning shop if I think the vauxhall quote is too expensive.
Any one had any ecu mods on their engine? have they any drawbacks??

just to carry on and make you lot aware of the car.

The car has had a new engine. Got 109k on the clock but I have a receipt for a new engine done at 78k.
I have got to raise this question:

surely Vauxhall knew that this engine setup had problems SERIOUS PROBLEMS. sO WHY ON EARTH DID THEY EVER ROLL IT INTO PRODUCTION?

you can use ecu's off other cars as long as you have the security code from the car it has come off!!! then (using tech2) install the ecu on your car reset it using the security code for it, flash the ecu using tis200+tech2 and then reprog using your code for your car and reprog immob function!!! no chip etc needed!!! i got a blank 2.2 ecu if anyone interested (used) you cant really swap and change old ecus any more without dealer equip, thats why i work for vx LOL showo..

thanks for that I know nothing about tech stuff tho I have just swapped over the ecu and solved the ecu light problemon the dash however I have now got a flashing car and spanner symbol. The car started fine opens and arms the immobiliser I think (well it flashes the indicators and arms the deadlocks) runs like a dream and is a bit more speedy lol. Any one know what the spanner thing is all about as its not printed in the owners handbook.

hi again just a wee update on the ECU. I changed over to the new one.
Everything seemed ok except for the flashing spanner and car symbol. Which will be sorted at some point Im sure but have found out today that the cruise control function is now not working.
Does anyone think the flashing spanner and car symbol could be pointing toward this or is it positively the immobiliser.

I try not to cause any problems ............. I just seem to buy them! :cry:

UPDATE!!!

Changed back to original ECU.

Reason:

car failed to start today and battery ended up flat
so...
bought new battery and fitted though the bloomin alarm
and horn going off in my ear was a distraction I must admit dunno..

End Result:

NO ECU OR FLASHING SPANNER WARNING LIGHTS ON DASH

however....

"BRAKELIGHT CHECK" on trip computer display dunno..

WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON!!! :?

you need to go to a main dealer to check with tech2 trust me these cars cannot be repaired anymore on your drive!!! dread to thing wat people gunna do with astra h wen they 7yr old LOL notsure.gif

i know its mad now especially hard now at work you have to have a technical mind these days to be mechanic its all electrical and technical even radios are part of the car computer system now, removing it can bring on the check light :roll:
