Bloody Virus!!

Hello chaps. I've just returned from a nasty virus on my PC. It buggered up everything. Both drives were affected. I went to PC World and they told me it was going to cost at least £130 to retrieve all the info and flatten the drives. I decided to buy a 320GB Maxtor external drive for £79 on special offer and do the job myself.

It took me nearly 9 hours to sort it all out!! Seems to be running fine now with all the latest updates including Internet Explorer 7. Doesn't seem too bad.

Yeah, it can be a right pain in the arse. One of the ways I get around it is to install Linux, and you can then read all the data on the Windows partition, and copy across as required. Even if the Windows OS is shagged, it still works.

Don't believe a word they say at PC world, their Tech's are idiots.

I think it was a Trojan that is doing the rounds. It knocked out my Norton and the D Drive where I keep all my files. The files became hidden in another file with lots of zeros in the title?? My DVD/CD writers could not be found. It kept crashing out and freezing.

That does actually sound quite a nasty little bugger...what sites were you on when you got it?

Difficult to say really. I didn't notice straight away. I was flitting around a few sites but nothing rude.
