PRE CAT REMOVAL

OK, SO I AM LOOKING AT GETTING THIS MOD DONE VERY SOON AND LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME POPPING NOISES!! :twisted: JUST CONCERNED THET IN THE FUTURE WHEN SELLING THIS CAR MAY CAUSE A BIT OF TROUBLE, WHAT WOULD BE INVOVLED AND THE COST OF REINSTALLING IT IN THE FUTURE??? THANKS

You won't have no trouble in selling the car with it removed. They will just probably think it's the standard noise of the 2.2. To replace that pipe I don't know on costs but I would probably think £50 to £60? But not sure, you may be able to get a second hand one cheaper from a breakers yard :wink:

wont be too much difference in noise unless you remove the centre silencer of course as well (ask my neighbours lol)

it won't cause a problem when selling the car, the new owner probably wouldn't notice as you can tell if its removed or not when the downpipe is refitted to the car.

as for re installing the precat, i don't think its possible unless the genuine vauxhall downpipes have them fitted. i have had 2 downpipes from a local motor factor and neither of them have had a precat fitted.

there is no problem with emissions at mot time either, my car felw through the emissions test without the precat.

I am planning on doing the precat removal next week when I fit my new manifold...(one thats on now has cracked).
I am now concerned after reading this thread that it may be too loud with my remus straight through with the precat removed!! Will it honestly make a lot more noise with this set up ??
After fitting the remus I didn't think it made too much of a difference really...bit deeper but nothing obtrusive.

Advice Please before I make an expensive mistake

Hello mate,

I had a remus centre pipe with no silencer, racing tube I think they call it with a remus back box fitted a while ago, you're right not too much louder just a bit deeper, Iwas well pleased.

I have just done my precat removal and was again well pleased as it has not made very much difference to the sound. It is still quite qiuet on tickover and it only gets a bit deeper as you bring the revs up, but it is just a deeper tone. I am very pleased as I find driving a car for any length of time with too loud an exhaust gets tiring.

Also some of the guys on here have said they get a burbling sound from a round the precat area when they lift off the throttle. I have not had this noise on my Astra Coupe

The pre-cat is only there to meet initial emission regulations.once they have passed that it doesnt matter anymore in this country cos a car flies through the mot with out it, the silencer and a 200 cell cat, bit of a farse realy lads.

l7jnd... thanks for that. I suppose I won't know until I do it. After fitting thr remus straight through and done airbox mods it would be a shame to deprive myself of any horses the precat has to offer ! So in for a penny in for a pound..If it gets a little warmer on Tue/Wed I'll be attempting to 'decat' the precat

Well I fit my new manifold today and decatted the precat...boy that was fun...can't wait to do another one of those noth.

You were all right about the sound...not much difference at all really. So whats the general concences now...do I drive it gentle for the ecu to adjust to this mod or doesn't it matter??

Removing the precat has certainly got rid of a sub 2k rpm flat spot I had. Seems to pull a lot better through all the gears..particularly 3rd and 4th.
It is a little louder but still not obtrusive and cruising at 75-80 can't tell any difference at all. All in all a very good free mod 😃

the precat was fitted to meet new car regulations, once registered it's not required any more.

with the z22se ecu, you should always allow it to settle for @30 miles before using full power after fitting any performance mod.

or do a ecu reset and then it picks up the mods better

How do I do this ? Do I disconnect the battery for 10 minutes?
