Pinking noise on start

I've just had my 2.2 Sri Vec for 2 months now.

I'm reading about the timing chain - I'll have to check if mines has been done. The Engine number 11035... seems to fall into the at risk category :?

When starting the engine there is a pinking noise coming from the right handside of the engine - dunno if it's just because of the temperature, but it sounds like metal pinking and creaking (expanding). Is this a known issue.

Is this thing to identify if the chain has been changed by marking cuts into the bolt head for real?

sounds like a cracked manifold 🙁

the cut-outs on the tensioner indicate a new tensioner was fitted, not conclusive proof of the later chain kit having been fitted :?

My Vec 2.2 is a 51 plate and it had the blue dot and the nicks in the bolt head and guess what? it had the old style oil jet. I think its reasonable to assume from mine and other people's experiences these mean diddly squat. :?

Sorry no idea about the pinking noise.

Take the heat sheild of the manifold only 4 x 13mm nuts and bolts from what i remember.

Does the noise go away after a minute or 2? Try your manifold bolts. Mine were quite loose on the air box side which was causing a spitting sound.

Yep, the noise goes away after few minutes, i'll tighten them tomorrow. As for the oil jet 🙁

i am also getting a rattle noise on startup.goes away after couple of minutes.does not increase with engine speed.scratching my head with this one.my police technician friends are also unsure.any ideas???

remove the exhaust manifold heatshield, the crack would be visable 🙂

if theres no crack check the flexi underneath dunno..

also ask them to check it's not coming from the chain, a screwdriver to the ear will tell if it's that

if it is the chain - get it replaced asap :roll:
