zafski I have a water pump that leaks oil (yes oil). I have so far bought a pump and the Sealey tool to hold the sprocket. What other seals do I need and are there any tricks I need to Know ?. I wish I had worked out the thing was leaking before I changed the timing chain. Can anyone recommend a good anti freeze (other than VX which is bound to cost the earth).
vocky should be quite straight forward, but very fiddly 🙁 I've removed one off my spare engine, but that was easy  the access plate should help, just don't drop any bolts into the timing chain cover
zafski Dropped a valve collet off a cvh (nasty ford engine) once. It dropped straight down an oil hole and clang! hit the sump. Very careful to block holes with rag after that. The pump sprocket tool should stop anything falling into the side of this engine. I definitely don't want to take that off again.
zafski Very sure. When I did the chain (because some P**** didn't release the spring in the tensioner) I changed the tensioner, chain cover gasket, crankshaft seal and the top cover gasket. That area is quite dry now until you get down to the pump. The pump has two slots in it between the wet side and the oily drive chain side. In those slots it is full of oily goo. To put it into perspective this car has lost a litre of oil in a single day in the summer (its not so bad in the winter). The engine is also noisy in that area (except at tickover) so I think it may be knackered.
zafski Water Pump done Water pump done (you were right Voccy it is tricky). It is hard on a zafira because the bonnet is short and the wings rise up. The Sealey tool is great (you cant drop the bolts into the engine). The three biggest problems are :- Getting the thermostat housing off so you can pull the pipe off the pump. Getting the tooling on and bolts undone with the Chassis rail where it is. Getting the threads in the new pump lined up with the bolts (going through the sprocket). I ended up poking an allen key through the tool to feel where the holes were. Dont expect to do it in the 2.1 hours VX suggest
