X reg Golf Gti 1.8 TURBO

My mate bought one of these yestersay for 5500. Took me for a spin and my god is it fast! Thing is, it only has 150bhp, but it feels alot quicker than my 2.2.

Anybody know anything about this car, 0 -60 ect?

the standard 2.2 is quite slow because it's restricted

when I refitted a standard exhaust to my vec150 it went from 'bloody quick' to 'how slow is this' :shock:

it feels alot quicker cuz it has a turbo so it hasa lil bit more torque...

as soon as the turbo spins up it will pull whereas with a natural aspirated 16v engine like the z22se it will start pulling lineary from 3500 rpm's

A turbo drives way different and thats why it SEEMS so much faster while in reality the 0-60 time is 8.5 seconds wich is only 0.3 seconds faster then the z22se in a coupe

But maybe he has got it chipped? that way it should have around 200bhp and 0-60 time should be around 7.5 secs.

i thought that the vw 1.8turbo unit standard pushes out 180bhp like in the octavia/passat/leon/tt/a4/a3/

Found out today he has it chipped now running at 200 bhp.

My boss had the 1.8 turbo and his was an "S" plate (1999) and his was the 150bhp one. The newer ones are 180bhp, as my shift leader has the 1.8 TT.
