Z22SE Turbo it or just get a coupe turbo?

Wandering what everyone thinks disregarding the cash issue which would you do personally and which would I be able to get the most bhp from?
Putting a Turbo in the 2.2 and modding it totally or the Z20LET and the stage 4 Regal or Courtenay and whatever else you can do water pump hybrid turbo etc the same with the 2.2... dunno..

I would say go for the 2.2 Turbo. I would think it's more stronget than the let and it's chain driven 🙂. Be different for a change as I don't know of many or any 2.2 Turbos......

the z22se can produce some serious power, in the usa up to 1000bhp in turbo race cars and 450 bhp in turbo road cars

WOW Made my mind up!

Wow Vocky what an engine mate drool.gif I know what I am going for now!!! 8) I have just recently booked my Baby in to have the cams done and a new performance clutch so think the pennys will be going to the turbo also 😃
Vocky I have a good mechanic it's a long story but the guy preps rally cars and his son is the British Formula Ford Champion and does the work on the racing car his son uses would you recomend just sourcing all parts required to do the conversion and get him to do it as he'll no doubt be a lot cheaper than Courtenay or Regal or do you think I should pay that bit extra and get either of them to do it?
I am looking to get crazy figures out of the car obviusly it will be a work in progress but I want to get the figures I know the engine is capable of am I right in saying it is used in a lot of GM cars and has larger bhp figures with other makes???
Thanks for the help in making my mind up mate and any other ideas of what mods I should do would be greatly appreciated guys she is on H&R Dampers & Springs 55mm/F 35mm/R and a 200 cell sports catt and oval backbox I am also getting a new manifold but I am not sure what way to go...

option two - buy the parts from the usa and get your mechanic to fit them

disregarding the cash issue i think any1 would go for a 2.2 turbo.

But lets say u have it tuned to 300bhp, will it still pass MOT emissions test and stuff? i doubt it.... cuz one of the reasons a standard z22se is underpowered in europe is to reach euro 4 norms and i think u will be just a "tiny" bit higher (note the sarcasm)

You are right !

They have made rules about tuning as in looks, bodykits, neons, rims, lowering, etc so its allowed but only if within their standards and with the right papers
for example a coil over kit has to be installed by a specialised company + u have to have the right papers else u will fail MOT. Same goes for another exhaust... so forget about buying a remus from ebay lol. Its better though cuz now there are laws about it and at least u know whats allowed and what not, in the past it depended on the chap at MOT, if he was in a bad mood u'd fail even for just having lowering springs, if he was ina good mood u wouldnt hear a word.

But tuning your engine is completely forbidden. And if our MOT see's a turbo or sc on a n/a car ur not allowed back in traffic. Also engine swaps are not allowed unless alot of paperwork and alot of xtra cash.

conclusion: Belgium sooks when it comes to petrol engines and engine tuning

they favour diesels..... puke.. cryb..

Thanks again Vocky mate think it's gonna be the turbo option so it's time to start locating and pricing all the items I am gonna need... And the ££££££££££s will need to go into the piggy bank.lol Na vocky what's your opinnion on sourcing a turbo from a c20let or z20let or go for the turbo kit Regal sell £5000 a bit pricey but 260bhp and whatever else I can get from other mods that don't come with the turbo kit...

I personally would buy the turbo bits off ebay.com and source a T3 or T4 turbo in the uk 8)

the biggest hurdle is the ecu, but aftermarket units are available 😃

Cheers for the help vocky cheers.. I'm not gonna sit and try and bullsh*t I know an engine inside out mate I know the basics and that's it and am always trying to learn more...
So who would I source an aftermarket ECU from and would somewhere like turbotechnics be the way to source turbo from or would I be able to source a good condition turbo from e-bay or will it be a game of chance with e-bay and realisticly what would the figures be really I know it's gonna be a total engine rebuild and what bhp do you think I could run with the car still driveable daily? And obviously I am going to have to uprate the Disks and Calipers What kits do you think do the job? On the hatchback I have Brembo Drilled front disks and Mintex pads before them I was running EBC and GreenStuff pads so they are the only kits I have used and most of my mates and my wee bro run EBC which give me the Brembo Drilleds anyday the reason I am asking this the now and not later on is I need new front disks and I'm at a loss I want to upgrade to the 308mm disks and probably 4pot Calipers...

I've heard of pple that had to replace their z20let turbo and went for a leh turbo (the one from opc and vxr)

just a thought 🙂

and personally i think a turbo 2.2 will be able to push out 260bhp easily

Yea xinitialz mate couldn't think of the new turbo code and that's what Regal advertise for their turbo conversion for the z22se it does include the dbilias inlet manifold cooler cams etc so with a few other mods that they don't include thinking also about getting a lightened flywheel soon bit better take off 😃

if you want the easier route buy a saab aero 2.0 turbo engine complete from the scrappy and then use your crank with eagle rods

power would be around the 300 bhp mark showo..

brake wise get some willwood calipers and 308's

Thanks again for your input Vocky cheers.. Yea the Saab Turbo engine is a route I will be looking into 300bhp 😃 Is that with a lot of mods or is that what it kicks out? I am putting my Baby onto a rolling road soon to see what she is kicking out at the moment so I have a start point as really the only engine mod I have done so far is the Exhaust System a custom 200cell sports-catt and an oval back box by the way another question I want to take the pre-catt away and that BIG thing in the middle of the system also I noticed a post with a guy saying he had a down pipe along with his Dbilias Flowmaster inlet manifold but I thought the down pipe was only really used on the Turbos I know I am no doubt wrong on this but I would like to know aso when I put her in to get the pre-catt removed (or would this have been done when I got the sports-catt?) and that big thing in the middle of the system I also need to have my 2nd lamba sensor moved along a bit as my emissions light is on and I've had it on the diagnostics machine my mechanic said that this is what he has to do when he de-catts the Scoobys etc I have a lifetime warranty with my Exhaust system but when I contacted the company they told me that they would just raise the lamba sensor up a bit. But my mech says that this would only mask the problem and stop my light coming on to fix it properly it needs moved further back from the sensor as the gasses are coming through a lot faster than with the O/E 400 cell catt dunno..

saab aero is 230 bhp standard and a remap raises that to 275bhp, so with a decent exhaust and intercooler 300 bhp should be reachable showo..

they should off removed the precat when they fitted your sports cat.

the lambda sensor needs to have a spacer fitted, so the tip is near the wall of the pipe (where the flowrate is slower) rather than in the middle (where the flowrate is higher)
