oil brand?

does it matter which brand of oil i use? i plan to change my oil again later this year so i cant bring myself to pay £25 for castrol magnatex at my local halfords! or am i just being a tight @ss? dunno..

goto a vauxhall dealer and get the proper stuff as recommended which is cheaper than the halfords stuff.

Vxl's RRP £18.85 + Vat for 10/40 semi synthetic oil. And that 5 ltrs not 4 which i think castrol is.

Dunno if you guys realise that the oil you get over the counter is different to what gets used in the garage the grade is the same but the make is different, vxl from parts and we use morris in our garage.

Wot I was trying to say is that if you go to the parts counter you get vxl oil but when you car gets serviced the oil is not generaly vxl oil but whatever oil the rep has flogged to the service manager. hope that makes a bit sence... thumbup

Last time I did an oil and filter change I tried using Castrol Edge Sport 0/40. Its bloody expensive but warms up within a matter of a minute from starting (even during winter). Much better than last time when I used halfords cheapy stuff :?

OIL

Got my oil from Cafco as was,[ changed name to Autoparts?] they now recommend fully synthetic 5/30 oil, wasn,t cheap but car warms up quicker, engine seems more responsive, they actually showed me the recommendation in the parts book, so not bulling for mor cash!

so in a Vx parts book they recommend 5w30? What car u got?

VX recommends 10/40>>>cafco/autoparts>> recommended 5/30 synthetic due to longer service intervals, seemed logical to me,
Vectra 2.2 sri 02 reg B shape.

10/40 semi synthetic oil from vauxhall is ideal. Last time i bought some it was 4 for the price of 3 (trade) price was £19.80 + vat for 4 x 5ltr which is great.

I`ve used mobil 1 for last 4 oil changes, and when I used 5w 30 (twice) the engine revs itself almost reaching 1900rmps at start up,
but it doesnt happen with 5w 50,

anyone know why this may be caused? an engine oil pressure sensor?

and just as a last note, the engine pushes really nice with the 5w 50,
