kevhicken hi all ,new to the forum so i hope this is in the wright section. i am looking to buy the wife a 2.2 sri 51/ 02 with 75000miles what should i be looking for and what may need doing to it once we get it , thanks for any info kev.
DBcoup 1st thing is make sure its got full history and a new cam chain kit has been fitted, this will save yourself many many sleepless nights
vocky timing chain is quite cheap to change, but costly if it snaps the new type last 100k+ other than that just check for any signs of accident damage etc a very nice motor the 2.2 sri

mickyc bought my 2001 2.2 ls last jan and had no probs so far,just sailed through its mot. bloody good car. 😃
bembo22 i have no doubt this one will be a top motor once its sorted ! but i thought they should know about my problem as its heartbreaking to find out after you've forked out your hard earned reddies ! its the 'c' models 2002 onward that are effected as they have the dual clutch !!
kevhicken hi all thanks for the replies, bear with me but is the vectra c the new shape , because we have looked at a 2002 which is the old shape with 76000 on the clock.
bembo22 your right the 'c' is the new shape ! and by the looks of things either model has a different set of common faults !!! ?
ifizzy I have a 2.2 cdx same setup and power as the sri but more goodies well all the goodies to be exact. I bought mine with 106k on the clock but found it had an engine fitted at 78k when presumably the cam chain went through the lump. I like the car but am having little niggly things like dashboard warning lights on and off and anti roll bar linkages being replaced though the linkages are reflective of the rolling gear age. I would be a bit cautious if I were you as I only found out about the chain issues etc after I bought it when I researched other little faults. Definitely only spend your money on a car with a receipt for a new cam chain or get one right away. Good luck whatever mate. I dont like to cause problems ..................but I do seem to buy them.
