sucking noise

hey people, does anyone know what could be causing a sucking noise from around the power streeing pump? i'm not sure if its supposed to be there or not as i dont have anything to reference it with: i.e another 2.2 vectra. its a may 2001 vectra. on another subject i removed my pre cat the other day, i wish i had done it earliar as i definatly felt the difference without it. 😃

the power steering pump is noisy, but it may be the egr valve which sits next to the steering pump or a vacuum hose come apart - there is a join just below the egr valve in a small black vacuum hose, check it's still joined 🙂

thanks for that i'll try and find the source of it, i'm hoping that it is a hose that s lose/come off 🙂

When is this noise happining? i get a strong sucking noise when driving hard taking it to high revs at the point of changing gear, to be honest it sounds great :razz:

As well as the above question, is it only when the car is cold after a few minutes of driving or is it all the time?

mine does the same when it starts up from cold, i think its the egr valve cos it goes away after a few minutes then comes and goes!

Is it the 'Blowing Manifold' sort of sound?? Mine does this when its cold for a few minutes. Sound louder when you put your foot down then it disappears.

unfortunatly none of the above as it sounds more like an intake of air(like if you breath in with your jaw clenched shut) as for when it's happening from start up. also i have no idea if it happens when i'm driving as i can't hear it, it can only be heard if i have the bonnet up. ive still got to have a proper look at it. thaks guys for replying!!

when I picked my vec up the day I bought it from the dealers, it was only a year old and had just had it's first service

but they left the fuel pressure vacuum pipe off one end and that had a sucking noise :evil:

the thread above made me remember :roll:
