I've had a niggling power steering pump leak ever since my car went upto Courtenays the first time which was 12 months ago.
When I got the car back from them I noticed the area on top of the gearbox casing was getting progressively wetter. It was NOT power steering fluid but engine oil!! I spoke to them at PV2006 and they couldn't shed any light on it. The car then went back to them in August for the cams and when I got it back this time it was really bad. I asked them to see if they could find anything wrong but they said all was okay.
Well, after speaking to Vocky last week and him having a look, he said to remove the power steering pump and check the cam seal. I ordered the seal kit which was just over £20 trade. I only needed the cam seal but I had to have all 4. I removed the pump today and found the problem.
They had clearly not replaced the cam seal when they had stripped the head on the first visit and definately hadn't replaced it when they stripped it again for the new cams. The seal was hard and damaged and the mating face on the cylinder head was scored.
I stoned off the end of the cylinder head and replaced the seal with a new one. I also replaced the seal to the fluid pot too. I reassembled it all and fingers crossed, its cured the problem. I took the car out for a good run this afternoon and checked it a few times whilst we were out and all seems fine now.
Thanks to Daz too for the 'Bleeding' info too. Cheers mate.
