No its not a dog but a fish :lol: Its a male Betta also know as Male siamese fighting fish, males must be kept on there own or they will fight to the death :evil:

So do you need to keep that one fish in a tank ALL on it's own, or can it be put with other species of fish?

There best on thier own Matt, you can put certain other fish with them but they can ether become very stressed or very nasty towards the other fish. I was going to put a couple of snails in with them to keep the tank cleen but apparently the fighters will rip there little antena thingys off :lol:

Bloody hell, I didn't realise they were that nasty. My missus wanted to put one in our tank.....glad we didn't now.

Off Topic: How often do you do a water change? I'm a bit lazy and keep for getting to do mine regular, but nothing has died though.

If you put one of these in a communty tank which is what i first did, it wont last more than a week! There long flowing fins are an invite for other fish to nip at and the fighter will die from stress which is why there best on there own!

The fighter tank i do a water change once every 2 weeks, normaly change a 3rd of the water. In my main tank i change around 20 litres a week as there are more fish in there that are very messy.

Oops, I don't think mine has been cleaned for about 2 month, but the quality of the water isn't that bad.

Ive always wanted tropical fish....Are they easy to keep?

I used to have one of those Plec thingys and it was only about 2 inches long when I bought it and then it grew to about 8 inches long.

My 4 Clown Loaches died from white spot, and my Corydoras went mental and started swimming upside down then they died too. My longest living fish was my Angel Fish and he lasted about 5 years. I've only got 8 neons at the moment.

Ill be honest and say no! When first starting off its a nightmare as the water qualtity needs to be monitored constantly. I made the mistake off rushing everything and eneded up with numerous deseases in the tank and lost alot of fish, but once you get the hang of things it becomes alot easyer. I`ve had the main tank set up now for 2 years and love it!

My tank has been running for abou 18 months now, and again, to start with, was a pain in the ass. We got through about 30 neon tetra before the tank settled, and it's been running nice for about the last 12 months.
