Help!

I have broke my sons pc :? . He bought some new speakers for his computer but they would not work. I tried a few things out but nothing happened. It could not find a mixer or something notsure.gif . I went into some settings and disabled the audio setting then en abled them again straight away. It then asked for the pc to re boot. It went along re booting, the xp screen came on loading and now it's just sitting on a blank screen :shock: :cry: . I then tried turning the pc on in safe mode but just a blank screen after the xp loading screen dunno.. . Please help. He wants his pc back tomorrow :razz:

You've not had much look with this PC by the sounds of it Mark.......

Anyway, if it's sitting at a blank screen when trying to boot in safe mode, then I don't know of much else you can do. Does it come with an XP recovery CD, so you can at least re-install Windows and start again?

It's not got one. It came from a computer shop that just builds them up. It's probably a dodgy copy of xp pro he has. It's only going onto the blank screen after the xp screen says it's loading up, then just a black screen. Would my xp home edition help it out? I may just wipe it out and put my xp into his, but mine is a Packard Bell setup. So not sure if mine would help.

You normally can't use a recovery disc from one PC to another, as they have specific set ups/drivers etc which get installed by default. There is a utility which can extract the information from your boot disc, and make a new bootable ISO which you can burn to use. I'll try and remember the name and let you know.

Cool, I think it's going to be a full boot he needs now. I just don't know why it won't go any further than the xp loading prompt, just jumps to a black screen..

Just out of curiosity mark,,,boot from the xp disc and do a repair,,,worked for me the other week...

He never got any discs with it Daz. I asked him and he had a mad disc with nothing to do with xp on it. Will mine work? even though mine is home edition and his is Pro. Cheers

Ok, I will try it now. 🙂. I have just noticed something also. His pc does not have a floppy drive. So it can only work on cd's

It would not pick up my discs. I can only get into setting from start up ie Del: puts me onto a blue screen with Bios and other stuff on. F11: gives me a white screen with 2 options. I think I am fooked this time, I can't understand it as it's running mint up til the point when the blue bar scrolling on windows Xp screen stops, goes off and nothing happens. I can see windows Xp on the screen loading up and nothing after.

It's now sorted, it's got the new graphics card and speakers now working. He is over the moon! Thanks for all the help 🙂
