fault codes vec c type

Hi lads,is it possible to read the codes on a 2.2 vec late 02 c type.I know on the b type you could read the codes with a paper clip,i tred this and it worked on my old car.needed a new cam sensor.just wondered if it was possible on the new shape vecs,any tips people? 🙂

Not sure mate. It may be possible, someone on here should know 🙂. I wonder if the plug for the Tech 2 is still under the handbrake cover?

The port is under the ash tray, just pull it out and hey presto! Down side is you cant do the old paper clip test I'm led to believe.

I bought one of these from Gendan. PocketScan code reader. If you use it regularly its cheaper than going to Vauxhall for Tech 2.

paper clip test does not work on a vec b 2.2, so probably won't on a vec C either

used to work on my old <R> reg vectra 1.8

post 2000 models require tech2, pre2000 models can use tech1
tech 1 is very basic
tech 2 is a portable computer

paper clip test wont work because vectra c has can bus system alot more tecnical than older diagnosis

Can you get a lead to conect a TECH 2ed enabled laptop to work with a vec C?

not shure only the problem is CAN bus system , tech2 has a CANDi unit extra to read CAN bus language dont think laptop or self testers have that technology usually up to vec b and astra g , so vec c and astra h onwards no go areas, without TECH 2 n Candi unit attached ???

I found something on E bay called an OBD2-ELM326 Personal Computer Interface. In fact there was several of them. It mentions being CAN compatible.
Was thinking of getting one my self but I do not have a lap top so that would have to come first !!!! Look up number 120099919813 or if the auction period has ended when you do it just search "engine fault code readers" as there was more than one. I have a 2001 2.2 SRI Vectra and have an engine code fault right now. Can you tell me more about the paper clip thing or suggest if there is one of these hand held things I can buy.
