Air filter connection help

Stealth SRi posted this picture of his induction kit a while back, I want to fit a similar cone filter but the ones I have all have round fittings and the black air pipe on the car that connects to the air box has an OVAL pipe.

Does anyone know how it can be conncted? Is there an adaptor I need to get?

my advice to u is get rid of the cone and do airbox mod with a panel filter...

you can get an oval k+n filter, but as above - fit a panel filter

i'll third that...had a cone for a while...lots of noise but way to hot under the bonnet for one...

I want to fit a kn 57i to my astra 2.2 coupe, before you all start, i don't want to airbox mods and fit an panel air filter. I would like to know if anyone knows if the 2.2 engines have any problems running with them on? (like the red top engines did!) If you all think i'm stupid for wanting to fitting one so be it, i just love noise of cone air filter 😃

There won't be any problems other than it will feel sluggish when the car gets hot under the bonnet and you will lose BHP if its run on the rollers.

The only thing that helps is if you've got a really good cold air feed and a shield to reflect the heat. You can find universal polished shields on ebay.

Other than that I don't know what else to suggest. You seem as if your mind is made up.

I didn't mean it in a nasty way 🙁 Its i've asked this question before and everyone went on about panel filters etc and didn't answer my question.

If theys any other way to get the same noise of a kn 57i with out fitting one. i'm all ears dunno..

as said, you can fit a cone filter but you need a decent cold air feed

that is why it's cheaper and easier to go with a panel filter

plus as you say, the cone is more noticeable

Take the lid off you air box and remove the restrictor pipe in the lid where it connects to the induction pipe that goes to the trottle body.

Take your filter out and exchange it for a K&N panel filter.

Whilst the airbox is apart, cut off the intake pipe at the bottom of the box so that its flush with the inside of the airbox.

Also Cut a 2 inch diameter hole in the front of the box. You could also take the box right out and drill holes up the side of the box in the side that faces the inner wing.

You will get a nice noise from it but it won't be quite as loud as the cone.

I have a cone on my 2.6 Veccy and it roars - such a nice sound!
I don't notice any drop in power using it. So I was hoping to do the same on the Astra, but as so many of you are saying it's best with the air box mod I may go with that now...

Having been in the VxlSCC for many years now, I have seen many members with the cones on the V6 and all of them have suffered power loss. It only becomes more apparent when you put the car on the dyno. I have a friend who recently ran his car on the dyno with a cone and then with the airbox and panel filter. There was a difference of 15 BHP better with the airbox and panel filter. It also helps to do the 3-pipe mod on the V6 as part it helps to get more air in. On the V6 you have to remove the front bumper. Cut the end off the pipe that goes in between the rad and the front section of the chassis. Remove the resinator box from under the drivers side wheel arch and also cut off the pipe inside the airbox. As I said above, you can also add extra holes in the box.

The V6 runs very hot like the 2.2 and this causes 'Heat Soak' on a cone filter. They do sound fantastic but thats about it.

Just want to say ive put a piperX cone on mine, sounds nice,
and love the spit of air when i switch engine off.
But thinkin of puttin panel filter back in, i sometimes feel the
power loss.

Will leave for now, and when remus fitted i will test them both.

Mines the same as tina's. it's brill out on the road but it did hamper it a bit on the rollers a couple of months ago ( partly due to a sticky thermostst as well though ).To put the filter on all i did was squashed the pipe in me hands and pushed the filter in, job's a good 'un.

If a cone filter will suffer from heat soak, how about you put a BMC CDA Induction Kit on? Woud that be ok? And would it make the same noise as cone filter? dunno..

an enclosed cone filter is probably the best intake and the most expensive

There was some threads floating around from when we had the rolling road day. pxc150 had a badly fitted Pipercross Viper, and was loosing _30bhp!

Will the close bmc make any difference in power gain? Will it make any noise? Can you get them for 2.2 if so where from? As my fella says he'll get me one 🙂 As long as i stop going on about air filters he says.
