Possible Faulty ECU
Hi, I hope you can help.
I've had my Vectra 2.2 SRI since new Y reg on 2001 plate. I've done approx 185,000 miles and have now run in to problems. just before Christmas, the engine was running slow on idle and would hesitate when accelerating from low revs in 3rd. generally playing up. Took it to a garage who put in on a computer. the engine management light was on. two faults were reported. low cat efficiency (or something like that) and the other was throttle valve body assembly. these parts were replaced just after Christmas and it was still exactly the same. they tried changing the coil pack but it made no difference. they also got an auto electrician in but he couldn't find anything wrong either. they say he did a live test withthe engine running and all was well. in the end, they said that they thought it must be the timing chain that was stretched! wanted to charge me £800 but I said NO!!! They only charged me for the 2 components, no labour charge as it wasn't fixed. It's now at another garage and they believe it may be the ECU as if it reports a fault, they note it, clear it and re run the engine. a while later, a different fault will appear, same again, note it clear it re run the engine. even after they clear it, it still runs rough. Any ideas??
Thanks,
Paul
