Andy, if you are able to place your router next to your PC, then you can use CAT5 cable to connect into the LAN port on your PC. If this isn't possible, you can do like I have, and install a wireless card into your PC.
The modem/router is what has the connection to the internet, so you don't need to have your PC on all the time.
