timing chain marks

just been reading my haynes manual in preperation for my chain change i see they have the timing marks on the chain as 2 silver and 1 copper where as on my new chain i have 2 purple and 1 blue i quess the 2 purple take the place of the 2 silver and the blue takes the place of the copper anybody no if thats right please

yes mate the new chains are fitted with the coloured links where as the older chains had the silver links.

thats one sure way to know if its been changed already.

copper to intake sprocket
silver to exhaust sprocket
silver to crank sprocket
So blue would be intake?

So I guess if the crank is at TDC after the compression stroke and all the links as above are lined up the cam timing has to be right? Is there any way to confim timing is correct without that "special tool", I'd hate to mash to valves!
