97k vx220 cam chain lunched, 🙁
not sure what direction to take next, source a 2nd hand engine (replace chain before i replace) or start some mods on my old engine..(get bottom end reconditioned etc)

any idea of going rate for 2nd hand engines ?

the going rate seems to be around £650 for a complete z22se engine

but if you want some more performance it's an ideal time to upgrade your cylinder head, which will offset the cost of the damage.

have the valve guides checked, usually they are ok, then fit some waisted stem valves and a new timing chain kit

then it's really cost nothing to repair the damage 🙂

yeah im considering options,
thinking of getting block reconditioned somewhere,
then get the head sorted, then some piper cams
new timing chain, light flywheel etc.
This engine easy to work on ? - Only ever played with a-series and crossflows in the past.
Can you recommend any companies that will do the head work cheaply ?
Also (lots of questions atm!) balancer shafts worth removing and getting an electric water pump ?

I find the z22se very easy to work on, not much different to cross flows - just more power and an extra cam 😃

if you rebuild the bottom end get some Eagle con rods, very cheap at the minute - about £150 + postage + customs

I will be using a bottom end with the balancer shafts removed, but not sure about the water pump yet - might be better using the electric type in my vx220

lightened flywheel is a good idea in a vx, as there's not much weight for the engine to pull

what do you want to do to the head, other than repairs, gas flowed ?

gas flowed, and if the valves are damaged (likely) getting wasted stems, then piper cams on top,
yeah was thinking about the rods too, got a link ? - is it a case of just replacing the shells, or best to take it somewhere for an overhaul ?

Do you think the engine would be ok without the balancers, looking at the pics you could just blank them off, and block the oil holes (welding?)
then run the electric waterpump - altho im not sure how the water pump works in this engine

the valves will be bent, so a good excuse for an upgrade 😃

pipercams are very good, not sure where best to get the head ported, I did mine myself

buy the Eagle rods off ebay.com - search 'ecotec'

you could just replace the bearing shells and piston rings - if there is no wear and you could just leave the balancer shafts in place without the chain attached

'Dude' is the guy to ask about the electric water pump as he has fitted it to his race vx, must admit I would like to see how he fitted it.

going to source a weaponR too and a 68mm Tb, just looking around now, i might be able to get them in the country sneaky too saving some pennies.
I'll know more when i get the head off, see what the damage is!
oh where do you get the valves from (wasted stem) i saw a link to an american site and i cant find it now
