cam chain info!!

right just bought an astra 2001 Y 2.2, and its started to make the dreaded noise sometimes when cold. its got full vx service apart from last service and done 56k. i spoke to vx head office and 2 dealers near me and no one knows anything bout it?? what do i do next apart from having it done myself??

if it has full vx service history i belive the old oil jet would of been replaced on the service if you CLICK ME theres some things to look for to see if yours has been done

if it's making a rattle on cold start up, get the chain kit changed ASAP 🙁

yea seen this and it has the cutouts on the nut but some say that it does not mean it has been done? and its making a noise? anyone got any good ammo i can take to my vx dealer tomorow? what to say etc? cheers.

Nope it doesnt mean its been done....mine had the cutouts and so did andys and we both had the smaller oil jet fitted... :cry:

think im gonna speak to head office again tomorow and quote field remedy 1532 and then take a trip to the dealers and then see how i get on?

As Daz said, he changed both his chain and mine and even though our tensioners had the cut outs both cars had the old oil jets fitted.

i'd get it done ASAP cos if it snaps then its gonna cost big money to get it put right if you cant get vx to foot the bill.

not being funny but are you sure its the chain?
The z22se has been known to have noisey hydraulic tappets or a blowing exhaust manifold both can sound pretty noisey when it starts.

next cold start, pop the bonnet and get someone else to start the car whilst you listen. It should be obvious if the rattle is coming from the chain area or not.

Also ring up whoever serviced it and ask if they have a record of changing the chain. I did that and they were very helpful. 😃

all I'm saying is get it checked asap, as a broken chain costs £1500+ and a replacement chain costs £350 fitted cheers..

Means nothing. Mine had the cuts, blue dots, everything, but still had the old oil jet when Benny changed it a coupla weeks ago. If you havent got paper work to say its been done, dont assume it has
