Matt I had a 106 for my last car. It was a 1.1, and I loved it to bits. BUT, you are right, reliability can be an issue. I got through 2 drive shafts in 18 months, and the car only had 55k on the clock.
Matt The GTI is a superb little pocket rocket. 125bhp out of the box, half leather, nice body kit, and looks the dogs danglies.
Matt The GTI is a lot more reliable than the base model (which I had) I'd say out of 10, you're looking a goo 8. Parts are dirt cheap anyway, and they share most commen bits with the paxo anyway.
TimSri Thanks for the info Matt. Hasn't the gti the same engine as a saxo vts? (I hate saxo's!!!!!!!!! puke.. ) Are they cramped inside? Strong possibility for my next car me thinks notsure.gif
rushy Yep same as VTS 16v. Jeremy Clarkson rated the 106 Gti as the second best handling car in the world.
Matt As rushy said, the engine is the same as the VTS, but the interior/exterior is a class above, they aren't cramped, plenty of room for 4 decent size blokes.
TimSri Ive always liked them but never considered due to the size of the 106 and realiability (French cars!!). But from what your saying Matt, defo. could be my next car!
Matt I know what you mean, like I said earlier, the only reliability issue I has was with the driveshafts, as I had to replace both of them in the 18 months of ownership. Any excuse for a few pics:
TimSri Thats a nice car you had there!! You say there was plenty of room inside, is there plenty of head hight inside?
rushy I had a 205 and a 306 both for 3 years a piece, no probs with either of them, the only fault I had in 6 years of driving my pug was a role bar link that cost £10 to replace. I think the newer pugs like the 307's and so on are a bit more flimsy but pugs from around that age seam to be pretty bulletproof. Plus that engine is so easy to work on, I think itsa TU series.
