I already know the answers to the questions I' m about to ask but I thought I'd best share the experience (so far) to retain a shred of sanity.
I've got an '01 Vec. B with 36,500ish on the clock. It has rec'd oil and filter change every 5,000 since its purchase at 21,000.
About 5 weeks ago i suddenly noticed on start up what I can best describe as an intense metallic meshing/growl noise for 2-5secs. It was definitely not a loose sounding metallic rattle.
This is very sporadic and hasn't occurred once in the past week. First question. Is this the initial symptoms for the lubrication problem? The engine No. falls in the affected range.
Contact with the local Vx dealership prompted polite disinterest and a denial of frequent breakage repairs from the workshop mgr. A search of my reg.no. revealed my car did not exist (according to them) and suggested I call customer services.
Second question. Has anyone had chain failure follow on directly from what seem to be on the face of it limited problems.
I know its going to have to be replaced but as always cost and timing are an issue. I don't think pursuing Vx. when I can't reproduce noise is a starter so can anyone give me an idea as to the time the job will take in order to get an idea of cost before approaching garages
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.
